WHAT IS ABRSM?

ABRSM is the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. It was founded in 1889 and for 120 years it has been delivering the highest standards in the field of musical education, organization of examination, and publishing of textbooks and technical literature. As opposed to the traditional system of musical education typical for every country, studying according to ABRSM standards is identical in levels, system of examination and criteria in each and every country in the world – 93 of them in total with more than 630,000 students per year.

The Associated Board has the authority of four of the leading conservatoires in the UK: Royal Academy of Music (London), Royal College of Music (London), Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester), Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Glasgow).

FOR WHOM IS THIS SYSTEM INTENDED?

ABRSM, although primarily intended for children, speaks to all age groups, thus anyone who wishes can attend the lectures and take the exams. For those who change residence during the life ABRSM program is perfect because in more than 90 counters they can keep learning with same method.

WHY DID WE CHOOSE ABRSM AS OUR METHOD?

Our striving for the highest quality of education served as an incentive to measure our progress and accomplishments against internationally accepted norms. We deem it essential to provide our students with the annual assessment by an independent board comprising top experts who will, with students’ best interests in mind, present them with support in their further development.

ABRSM inspired us as a system since it offers its students comprehensive musical education, within the frame of unique individual lessons, and what is more, it is available to all, regardless of age or current level of knowledge.

WHICH LEVELS OF ABRSM EDUCATION AND EXAMS ARE OFFERED BY OUR CENTRE?

The following levels of education and preparation for exams are available at our centre:

PREPARATORY LEVEL: available to those candidates who are just starting to learn to play an instrument. The testing does not award marks, nor points, but the students receive short and meaningful comments from the examiners, with the aim of establishing a good musical and technical foundation. The examination at this level is envisioned as preparation for graded exams.

At ELEMENTARY (year 1, 2, 3), INTERMEDIATE (year 4, 5) and UPPER INTERMEDIATE LEVEL OF EDUCATION (year 6, 7, 8) requirements increase with the year of studying along with the knowledge of the students. The exams consist of four parts equally represented in the individual lessons during the preparation of candidates for the examination. At the end of every exam a mark is awarded according to the number of points earned by the candidate.

ADVANCED LEVEL – DIPLOMAS there are three different levels of diploma awards.

WHERE DOES ABRSM EXAMINATION TAKE PLACE IN SERBIA?

In Serbia, ABRSM examination is organised every year (by the end of May or beginning of June) in “Isidor Bajic” Music School in Novi Sad.
